Crossing the Potomac, by Mark Tulin John was sure that George Washington crossed the Potomac River. At dinner, he maintained that Washington stood up in a large ship while crossing the Potomac to make a surprise attack against the British in Virginia. He was the kind of person you couldn’t question. If he thought the sky was green, you agreed to avoid a nasty argument. I kept quiet, nodding my head, knowing that George Washington crossed the Delaware in a Durham boat. I was an American History major and a teacher, but it didn’t matter to John. He needed to be right more than I did.

That’s remarkable self-control. Maybe if you reminded him, of the legend that Geo. threw a silver dollar over the river. And then Martha made him sail over to find it, that was a lot of money in those days. Did he know the ship was made of cherry wood, from when he chopped down his father’s orchard?
Thanks, Robert. I think I’ll have you talk to him. He thinks that Washington was a compulsive liar who liked to chop down eucalyptus trees.
haha! 🙂 Please don’t give him my contact info! I do not possess your much-admired patience.
As you wish, although your knowledge of history is quite impressive. 🙂
Sometimes it’s just better not to argue.
Yes, exactly. No point in getting aggravated.
One learns this over time!
Yes, better will power.
I agree. I detest confrontations myself!
Yes, especially over petty issues.
So do I!
