The Tao, by Mark Tulin

Before the baby opened his eyes, the mother held him in her arms and whispered, “We are only going to experience good feelings. We will never have hurtful emotions. We will always be kind. Love will flourish in our hearts and it will only be sunny in our minds.

Soon the baby’s eyes opened. He looked at the mother with curiosity and then peered into the expansive universe.

The universe said, “Your mother’s version of reality is wrong, son. That is not how the Tao works. Pain and sorrow are always mixed in with happiness and love. It’s the way.
