THE DRISHTI OF POETRY
written by: Mark Tulin

Standing on my head, I see the world from the ground up
increasing my pranic energy.

Holding onto warrior pose strengthens my focus and resolve
to continue my flowery verse.

Deepening my metaphor and finding my voice,
staying in the moment, moving closer to the point.

When my mind weakens, and I grow skeptical,
I slide back into a relaxing child’s pose.

Some days it’s wiser to go slow or not at all,
put away the words that rhyme for another day.

Sticking to a meter and a pace,
a creative habit shouldn’t be a chore or a race.

Balancing between all aspects of life—
Not overdoing the style or the topic in which I write.

Being mindful of the poetry that I pen,
dwelling on the honest simplicity from the mat within.

Great poem! The world does look different upside down! (I have not done such a move since childhood.) There is a balance we must find in life, and it is unique to each one of us. We need that balance in order to thrive, whether it is our creative efforts or anything else. There is a book which you may have already read…”Writing Begins with the Breath”, by Laraine Herring. It is a good book on gaining new perspectives.
