The Siamese Cat Poem by Mark Tulin

A Siamese cat leaped on top
of the kitchen table
where the smell of salmon
lingered romantically
like a song.

She sniffed around the drain,
the marble countertop,
the garbage can
where the intoxicating fragrance
wafts and fades.

Then she jumped on the sofa
with extended claws
until the material unravels
and her heart flutters
and soon, her interest turns

to a dancing speck
of elusive light
that flitters from a radiant ray
and bounces frantically
into a dizzying spin
like there was catnip
in the air.
