Poem: The Caring One by Mark Tulin

Painful wants sympathy
for all the torment
and suffering he’s in

Painful wants my ear
my complete attention
words of comfort
my commiseration

It will be all right,
you’ll be happy one day
you’ll find a lovely girl
a good job
a happy future
that’s peaceful and stable

And it is me
who is burdened by Painful
that also gets my
sympathy

I am the caring one
who feels responsible,
vulnerable, and in the
middle

I am the lonely one
who has to convince Painful
that his feelings and sour mood
are only temporary.

I came in for a visit, you liked a comment of mine on Elizabeth’s site. I’m glad I’m here for a look, your poem is very relatable to me, and I especially associated with this superb stanza.

Great! Especially love the last stanza, when in the depth of pain it is we who have to find comfort in ourselves to realise that it won’t last. I can relate to that, not always an easy thing to do. 😊
