Drabble: Nothing Could Hold Her Back by Mark Tulin

My disabled daughter’s first day at college.

Will to survive
It was my daughter’s first day, and I helped her settle into the dorm.

She had second thoughts, “Maybe I’m not suited for college.”

I didn’t want her to regret that she never tried, despite her physical disability. Instead, I wanted her to feel nothing could hold her back from discovering her unique gift.

The following day, she met her college counselor. It must have been fate because her counselor was a woman in a wheelchair, too. Yet, she was successful and confident. And when my daughter told me about her, I knew she was in the right place.
