SYMPATHY TO SPARE
written by: Mark Tulin
We were random strangers
whose paths crossed
in a CVS parking lot
She had lost a good friend,
and if I would be so kind
to lend her my shoulder
She wanted a strong body to hug,
whose heart was still beating,
and had sympathy to spare
She thanked me when it was over
and vanished down the road,
past the bank and the ice cream parlor
Past the church with the steeple,
into the hustle-bustle
of our everyday lives
where someone’s pain touches another,
and whose caring gesture
comforts our wounds.

A surprising encounter and very heartfelt. Love it, Mark ❤
Thanks, Rosaliene.
I’m glad you were there for her. That encounter did worlds of good. After my husband died, I needed my scooter repaired. The company was across the street. I knew the repairman from when he set the scooter up in the first place. He came when I was in the middle of a sad moment and gave me a big hug. I was surprised, but felt better.
Sweet story. Nice to know there are people out there who care.
Such a touching poem.
Thank you, Liz
You’re welcome, Mark.
I liked that.
🙏🏻
Very well put. If only more of us were willing to be so compassionate. I believe this world would be a better place.
That it definitely would, Theresa.
