The Lethal Cloud~By Mark Tulin

I waited for the lethal cloud
to float out to sea,
but it settled over my house.
Those who claimed to be accountable,
all burned to a crisp
in the fires and the toxic mist.

The final thunderstorm hit,
bringing plagues and pestilence,
cars and planes overturned,
bridges and homes collapsed,
mortal combat, war games,
and babies wearing N95 masks.

The disease spread over us
like a thick vanilla shake,
stores and cities crumbled,
planes grounded, weddings canceled,
hearts broken and lives closed-up
like a wheezy accordion.

Wings melted by the sun,
childhood memories undone,
just a smoky civilization on my lawn,
without any explanation
or apology by the chosen one.

Enjoyed them both, Mark. Death comes to us all.

Two very potent poems, the second a bit easier to take than the first.
