PATCH OF GRASS
written by: Mark Tulin

I hear the world
from a patch of grass
on the courthouse lawn.
With my ear to the earth,
I hear a vibration from a distant quake,
the tires of screeching cars,
clock-hands spinning,
and boot heels on cement.
I hear a bicycle ride by,
a skinny youth on a banana seat,
the sound of the rush of wind,
the glow of a smiling moon,
the hot sun in the Caribbean,
the ocean tide rolling in and out,
and my blood pulsing through
the universe.

I like this a lot, Mark! Our own pulse joining the audible & inaudible vibrations all around us, nice!

I’ve had that experience. I should seek it out again.
