YouTube Video Poem: The Music of You, by Mark Tulin

youtube.com/watch

This video poem was written for Irene Marie Ruiz, who passed yesterday morning on February 28. She was one of the few people that opened her heart to me when I arrived in California nine years ago.

I eventually married her daughter, and Irene and her husband, Jarvis, attended our wedding at The Lucky Little Chapel in Las Vegas, NV.

She loved music, especially 50s and old Spanish crooners. She had a bird feeder on her patio with a steady flow of robins and pigeons, and would get excited when a family of quails stopped by.

Her kindness and love was unmatched. So were her rice and beans. She will be sorely missed.

I am an author, poet, humorist, and short story writer from Palm Springs, California. I write about various topics, from my early childhood in Philadelphia to my years as a family therapist and finally to my soul-searching in California. These are poetic narratives that may have humorous or serious content or both. Either way, I hope my poetry and stories resonate with you.
