Joey and Joe, by Mark Tulin
3/5/2019

At nine, Joey couldn’t wait to grow taller so he could go on the rollercoaster.

At sixteen, Joey bought a used car and, soon after, got his first parking ticket.

At twenty, friends called him Joe instead of Joey.

At thirty, Joe got his girlfriend pregnant and they married.

At thirty-five, Joe went through an amicable divorce.

At fifty-five, Joe’s boss gave him a certificate to Red Lobster and, shortly after, severance pay.

At eighty, Joe wanted to go on a rollercoaster, but his private nurse said no. Instead, she pushed him around the block in a wheelchair.
