The Senior Citizen Curse
By Mark Tulin

Things have changed
since my early years
I’m not young and dumb
anymore
My spontaneous teenage ways
went out with the dishwater
I don’t go anywhere
without an extra sweater
or an umbrella
I know too much
My naïveté is gone
along with the hair on my head
and the muscle tone
I hear too much,
even when my hearing aid
is turned down low
I don’t do foolish things
like I used to,
or jump on bandwagons,
or try spicy foods
without an antacid
I see the world
with a grain of salt,
and a cautious point of view.

I am an author, poet, humorist, and short story writer living in Long Beach, California. I write about various topics, from my early childhood in Philadelphia to my years as a family therapist and finally to my soul-searching in California. These are poetic narratives that may have humorous or serious content or both. Either way, I hope my poetry and stories resonate with you. My books include Magical Yogis, Uncommon Love Stories, Awkward Grace, Junkyard Souls, and Rain on Cabrillo.

So true…no matter when you enter that time of your life.

But it seems you’ve gained some wisdom along the way! 🙂
