Poem: Calla Lilies by Mark Tulin

Much thanks to Spillwords.com for first publishing Calla Lilies in their fine online journal. The featured image by the artist, Alice Tulin.

~Calla Lilies~

She paints in a quiet corner
of an artist studio,
destined to dip her brush
into a small tub of water,
and dab it into an array of pastels
onto a small white canvas
and paint Calla lilies
in watercolor

She paints in gentle strokes,
taking her time around curves
like a woman’s figure,
long green stems,
a yellow center,
moon-colored petals
ready to flower
by soft, knowing hands.
