Cringe and Abide, A Poem by Mark Tulin

Huffy, arrogant people
Riding their high horses
Dwelling in ivory towers
Knowing all the answers
Who have heard it all before
Will tell you how it goes
How everything will shape out.

If you pay complete attention
If you cringe and abide
If you maintain a feeble position
If you bow down in deference
If you worship the feet, they walk upon
If you acknowledge the privileged ones.

Follow our rules and ways,
haughty people say,
and you, too, shall be the cream at the top.

I am an author, poet, humorist, and short story writer from Palm Springs, California. I write about various topics, from my early childhood in Philadelphia to my years as a family therapist and finally to my soul-searching in California. These are poetic narratives that may have humorous or serious content or both. Either way, I hope my poetry and stories resonate with you.

  1. this is so well written it made me mad! 🙂

  2. If you meet anyone like that RUN the other way and be sure you laugh as you go. Laughing at them, pisses them off. Laugh LOUD.

  3. They like to know everything and hate it when you don’t play along. I know from experience and believe me, when I’m laughing, it real. LOLOLOL

I am cringing. Hate these sorts

  5. Well I don’t want to be on top and considered a “huffy” 👸person. Being “huffy” 🤴you are also very, very touchy, every word 🖋a certain person may say to you “offends” you. Consider yourself a sensitive porcelain person.🤔
“Be nice to people on your way up because you will meet them on the way down” by Wilson Mizner. This statement is very, very, true.

    • Great Mizner quote, Hope. It’s an honor to be sensitive. I love sensitive people and porcelain. There’s too much insensitivity in the world, especially in the White House. Peace, Hope. And I’ll be nice to you on my way up. 🌞🌞
