Slam Poetry: The Shamers by Mark Tulin

They gather
assemble
in dark rooms
banquet halls
and out-of-order
bathroom stalls

They judge you
from their ivory towers
their first-class box seats
their six-figure cars
the cigar bars
reserved seats
in multi-national
corporate luxury suites

Holier-than-thou
bible thumping
nitpicking
purveyors of fine wine
they’ll unmercifully
blame you
defame you
denounce
renounce
trounce
and trash you

If that isn’t enough
they wave a finger
from their glass houses
judging
incriminating
obliterating
brandishing

But never looking within
never looking deep down
inside, introspecting
reflecting
contemplating
self-evaluating
meditating
Never taking ownership
of their own shit.

I don’t think they’re capable. Poor fools… Their houses are intentionally glass, transparent, so we can marvel at their proud materialistic superficialness inside. How does one lose sight, I wonder, with what really matters in life?

Poetry that shares the truth, though harsh, is always powerful!
