Shelly Loved Her Friends, by Mark Tulin

Shelly spent all of her free time with friends. She attended their parties, dinners, communions, and graduations. She babysat, made clothing for them, and was their bridesmaid.

The love for her friends blinded Shelly to the truth. She didn’t see how much they took advantage of her good nature.

Shelly became disappointed with her search for a partner. Whenever she introduced a new male, her friends had something critical to say, discouraging the relationship. They didn’t want Shelly to change or lose her. Then, when she finally found someone special, her friends became cold and distant. Shelly never knew why.

I am an author, poet, humorist, and short story writer from Palm Springs, California. I write about various topics, from my early childhood in Philadelphia to my years as a family therapist and finally to my soul-searching in California. These are poetic narratives that may have humorous or serious content or both. Either way, I hope my poetry and stories resonate with you.

  1. I hope Shelly’s someone special was good to her because her friends sure weren’t.
