This is a short story about a family in the throes of a mental health crisis.
My daughter, Susan, was crying at the top of the landing when I arrived home. “Dad, mommy is doing scary things again.”
I knew not to ask what those scary things were for fear of upsetting Susan more. I was also tired of explaining and making excuses for Annie.
In the living room, Annie was pacing in only her bra and a pair of panties, barefoot, her mascara smeared on her cheeks. I recognized that frightened expression and assumed she wasn’t taking her pills…
