Poem: Body Memories by Mark Tulin

Hips mournfully spread,

parting on the mat,

experiencing things I repressed

like the night he kidnapped

my innocence,

hijacked my soul,

doused my hopes

until I promised

not to scream,

not to say a word.

Trauma teacher, yoga therapist,

I’ve stored secrets in my hips

that I thought were forgotten.

With one gentle pose,

you’ve uncovered them,

sad and painful truths

for you to cradle,

to heal the hurts,

soothe the wounds,

and return the trust

I thought was lost.

  1. Yes, our bodies hide so many secrets. Secrets we forget until something or someone reminds us…
    Then we remember…

  2. Wonderfully melancholy!

  3. I had to get the oil can out a few years ago. I’m up to using five (5) drops a day on my hips. Fingers only need three (3) drops a day.
See whe you have to look forward too! Those twitches let you know you are alive! 😎

  4. Amazing what secrets the body holds. I could so relate.

  5. Wow, the power of our bodies to store such secrets. The power of our bodies to heal. Magnificent writing.

Ah yes, those hurts we hide. Give them over to the One who can heal. I pray that you can find that for yourself, dearest Mark. Release the pain those poses. May peace be with you always!

  7. YOUR BODY
    HEARS
    EVERYTHING
    YOUR MIND
    SAYS.
