Poem: Disturber of the Peace

The disturber of the peace comes to me
with my eyes barely open
in the middle of the night
when I am the most vulnerable.

He guides me into a dark realm
where I can’t find the exit.
Deep into a pool of molasses
where my mind stays stuck.

He is an unfriendly visitor, familiar
only in my discomfort.
A joker, a con, convincing me of sins
that I’ve never committed,
people that I’ve never hurt.

The disturber of the peace lives in my head,
whispers things that I don’t recall,
lies and hearsay ring in my ears
and make me dizzy with vertigo.

For I am the vulnerable one,
a lowly pauper convicted of crimes
without a fair trial.
I’m guilty only of my fears
while those without a conscience
are set free.

The Disturber of Peace is my prey. He doesn’t know where I live; for that, I am grateful each day. But I am closing in on him, this one fatal arrow, saved. Vengeance for the innocent he so relentlessly claims. Make way…

Really enjoyed your writing style and “molasses” imagery with this one.

  3. So true of todays legal ethics, its not guilty or innocent but how good a mouthpiece you can afford!

  4. The disturber of the peace lives in my head,
whispers things that I don’t recall,
lies and hearsay ring in my ears
and make me dizzy with vertigo……the prize of a conscience

Truly makes you think…but I know the cure and the “shield” to chase him away. Say a prayer to the Almighty before you go to sleep. Rest well in His arms and you will find peace. May He grant you and your readers that always.

  8. Incredible! The part about the “molasses” reminded me of sleep paralysis. Stunning piece.
