Crow Friday: Wish I Weren’t a Black Bird

I wish that I were invited to a Mexican party

And not watching it from afar

I wish that I could sing with the mariachi

And dance with the wives and grannies

I wish I could play soccer with the boys

And talk of business with the men

I wish I could warm up the tortillas

And have avocado with my carnitas

I wish I could laugh like they do

And rejoice in family memories

I wish I were a Mexican

And not a lonely black bird

Perching atop a tree.

Freelance writer, poet, yogi and photographer from Santa Barbara, California. I write and take pictures about a variety of topics, from my early childhood in Philadelphia, to my years as a family therapist, and finally to my soul-searching years in California. The things that move me may have a humorous or serious content or both. Either way, I hope my poetry, pictures and stories resonate with you.
