I really don’t know how people deal with the cold on the Central Coast of California. The winter is so treacherous and unforgiving. It strikes without warning and it comes at you like a monster. When the temperatures dip, people become mortified, petrified. They don’t know what to wear or how many layers to put on. They don’t know if they need to put chains on their tires or buy a snowmobile. They don’t know where to buy the rock salt or the ice-scrapers. People are bracing for the cold front that never really comes. They are expecting something that never really shows. They are prepared for the snow that never falls. Instead, they take out their hoodies and high-top converse sneakers and call it a winter.
