I used to feel that I was an island, and I could do everything myself. But it was only when I met Alice that I realized that I need other people’s help. I needed her hand in surviving in California, especially after discovering how difficult it was to find a job here. But I learned that no man is an island especially when you put pen to paper. Writing is not a solitary endeavor as most would have you believe. You need someone to help you, to guide you, to encourage you–and most of all, to help you develop your writing voice; that something special that is inside you that has a unique perspective of the world and that only you can convey. Alice in Santa BarbaraLand is my writing helper. And I’m grateful to have her.
